YOGA FOR RUNNERS: A QUICK SEQUENCE FOR BEFORE YOUR RUN

I have been a runner for many years. I have also been practicing yoga for several years. As a physical therapist who is educated about the intricacies of the human body, specifically the musculoskeletal system, I have learned the importance of adding stretching to my running routine.
No one wants to be dealing with a dumb injury when you are training for an event, whether it be a simple 2 mile casual jog before work, a 5K, 10K, half marathon, full marathon, IRONMAN (oh, gosh, you people amaze me!), but our bodies can only handle so much stress and strain. If we don't prepare ourselves properly for the demands we put our bodies through as our feet pound the pavement, we can easily become injured. Injuries in runners are common, and I have treated many runners over the years in my physical therapy practice who often have one thing in common.
Lack of flexibility.
A few simple yoga poses prior to your training run or event will undoubtedly give the muscles you will begin using some love and attention it needs to stay healthy.
